How to Pay with your Plan
Eating in the Dining Hall
Just one card swipe at our dining halls, and you can eat as much or as little as you like. No need to think about how much you are spending here! Enjoy a variety of entrees, sides, soups, salads, cut fruit, Howling Cow soft-serve ice cream and dessert, all for one meal swipe.
Attention Freedom Pass Plan Holders: When using the dining hall take-out option, it will count against your weekly 10 Meal Credits, just like all other meal plan holders.
Eating at Campus Restaurants and Cafes
You can enjoy our campus restaurants or cafes by using one of your allotted meals to cover your purchase. You will receive a Meal Credit, which varies by location and begins at $5.25 for breakfast and $7.00 for brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night. If you stay under the rate, you won’t owe anything more. If you choose to spend more, make up the difference with Dining Dollars (explained bel0w) or another form of accepted payment.
Only one Meal Credit can be used per meal period, and there is a limit of two bottled beverages per Meal Credit transaction at restaurants or cafes.

Dining Dollars are flexible funds that augment the meals component of your plan. Consider it “bonus” credits.
Use Dining Dollars to:
- Buy extra meals or snacks if a meal has already been used during a meal period or if you run out of meal-plan meals.
- Cover the difference if you spend more than the credit at a campus restaurant or cafe.
- Make purchases at our convenience stores and vending machines.
- Buy a meal for a family member or friend when they come to visit.
Choose from 100, 200, or 300 Dining Dollars. You can elect to buy more later, but be aware that we will automatically enroll you for the same amount in the spring unless you alert us between November 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. Stop in at the Wolfpack One Card Office in Talley Student Union or on the web.
Dining Dollars are required for all plans except the Commuter/Apartment and Athletic plans. 100 Dining Dollars per semester is often plenty for the larger plans, but they make a great complement to the other plans to cover smaller purchases and extra meals if you run out.
Your Dining Dollars balance will roll over from year to year, and any leftover balance can be refunded upon graduation or withdrawal from NC State. Effective July 1, 2016, Dining Dollars will roll over from semester to semester during the student’s enrollment, but will not be refundable after the semester in which they were purchased ends.
DINING DOLLARS ALERT! If you still have a Dining Dollars balance from the previous semester, your new balance will not show up at the cash register until your old balance is depleted. To check the status of your meal plan and dining dollars balance, visit go.ncsu.edu/manage-my-meal-plan.
Many of our locations participate in our Tapingo program, which enables students to use their meals credits, Dining Dollars and AllCampus funds to order ahead, pay and pick up. Learn more here.
