Fresh Start Program Offers a Healthy Start

Campus dining halls to highlight fresh, healthy options every Monday

September 10, 2012 (Raleigh, NC) ? Looking for a way to jumpstart your health? University Dining?s Fresh Start Monday program kicks off for its second fall season to bring attention to fresh, healthy options available in Fountain, Clark and Dining Hall in addition to other activities that promote good health. Weekly activites schedule for Mondays in September and October will be featured in the events section of Dining?s website (ncsu.edu/dining), tweeted (ncstatedining) and posted on Facebook (ncsudining).

?We introduced it last year at Clark Dining Hall and had a lot of positive feedback,? said Lisa Eberhart, University Dining dietitian. ?This year we extended it to Fountain Dining Hall and have added the ?Monday Mile? to show our students, faculty and staff a few easy options to work exercise into their daily routine. Each week, a mile-long walk or run will be mapped out on campus.

?The September 10 Monday Mile will begin at 4 p.m. at the Bell Tower and finish at Fountain Dining Hall. Prizes will be given to everyone who finishes. We will announce next week?s path on Facebook, Twitter, and in the events section of our website.?

University Dining chefs created the Fresh Start menu, which features display cooking stations, grilled sandwiches, prepared salads, fresh fruits and vegetables. Each week they will introduce a new menu of fresh options for patrons to enjoy.

Participants will be offered a frequent buyer card that can be entered into a drawing for a Coca-Cola branded mountain bike and other prizes when the program ends. In addition to the frequent buyer card, patrons can also win prizes by answering trivia questions about healthy eating.

?Fresh Start is a great promotion to get students, faculty and staff on the right track on Monday so that they will be empowered to make healthy decisions throughout the week,? said Lisa Eberhart, registered dietitian for University Dining.
