Notice: January 12 Charges Stemming from Off-Line Card Reader

NC State Dining is addressing recent Dining Dollar charges that may have appeared on student accounts on January 12, 2026.

One point-of-sale register at The Atrium Food Court was offline because of a network connectivity issue. During this time, the register securely stored transactions as designed. Once the device reconnected to the network, those stored transactions were processed.

Dining Dollar/All Campus Account charges

Because the reconnection occurred after the start of the Spring semester, some transactions defaulted to the Spring meal plan associated with the account. As a result, charges were applied to Spring Dining Dollars.

As a courtesy, affected transactions have since been refunded, and Spring Dining Dollar balances have been corrected. There was no fraud or duplicate charging involved. These were valid purchases that occurred while the register was offline.

Students who have questions or would like to review their account activity may contact the One Card Office for assistance.

Credit Card Charges

NC State Dining does not have the ability to reach out to credit card customers. To that end, if customers notice a charge appearing later than expected, please know that it reflects a legitimate purchase made while the register was offline. No duplicate charges were created, and no fraudulent activity occurred.

Because these transactions were processed directly through the secured credit card networks, we are unable to issue refunds for completed credit card transactions. However, if a customer believes a charge is incorrect or would like further review, they should dispute the transaction directly with  their bank or credit card issuer. The bank can assist with reviewing the charge details and determining the appropriate next steps. The Wolfpack One Card staff is available to assist with additional information during the review.
