Pack Pride in Action: Shelley Kelly
For Pride in Foodservice Week, we’re celebrating dining team members who embody Pack Pride and create meaningful connections with the NC State community. Shelley Kelly, Unit Manager at the Exchange Café, is a shining example of what it means to take pride in one’s work and foster strong bonds with students and staff alike.
Shelley’s journey with NC State Dining began in 2018, when she started as a temp employee. Her dedication and hard work quickly propelled her to a permanent role as a Night Food Service Supervisor, and she later advanced to her current position as Unit Manager. Her passion for her work and her team has been evident every step of the way.
One of Shelley’s proudest moments came last semester when a student invited her to their graduation ceremony. Meeting the student’s family and witnessing such a special milestone underscored the deep connections she builds in her role. “The family gifted me a jewelry box and an elephant, and it was so meaningful to be part of that moment,” Shelley shared.
For Shelley, the best part of her job is bonding with both customers and employees. “I love being a positive role model and building those connections,” she said. This commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment is part of what makes her such an integral member of the NC State Dining team.
What keeps Shelley motivated? The strong, driven leadership she works alongside, including Meghan Shoop and Denise Fields, inspires her to remain committed to excellence. Her advice to new team members reflects her resilience and positivity: “Never give up on your dreams or career. Even if you run into obstacles, remain calm and keep going.”
Shelley Kelly’s dedication to her team, her customers, and the Wolfpack community is a testament to the power of connection and pride in one’s work. Her leadership and passion are a source of inspiration to all who have the privilege of working with her.
